Gambling bites into family funds
This article presents opportunities for discussing the three forms of data representation shown in the graph, for using some basic numeracy skills and for discussing the social implications of the data. This last point could lead to further research. Students could be asked about the visual impact of using a roulette wheel as a pie chart. Comparing the pie chart and the table at the lower right, why do the percentage in one add to 100% but not in the other? It is also possible to comment on the heights of the chip stacks in the lower left pictograph. It appears that the height of the 0.5% column is too great compared to the others.
