Rain causes havoc on roads

PERSISTENT drizzle caused havoc on Tasmania's
roads yesterday, with a spate of 23 minor
accidents in less than eight hours. Police said
drizzle and greasy roads created treacherous driving
conditions. Three people were taken to the Mersey
Community Hospital at Latrobe with minor injuries
after a two vehicle accident on the Bass Highway at
Don Hill, near Devonport, about 5pm. Rain is
forecast again today and police have urged motorists to
exercise extreme caution. The 23 accidents compared
with just 14 reports on Friday.
